How long has HEAT been in business?×

HEAT was founded in 1985 in New York City. We are currently in our 24th year of operation and have more than 50,000 members in 10 Northeastern states.

How much does it cost to join HEAT?×

Regular membership in HEAT is $25 per year. If you are a member of one of our affiliated groups or unions you are likely to be eligible for a discount on your membership fee.

Who would my oil company be as a member of HEAT?×

If you fill in the registration form on our website you will be told who the preferred HEAT supplier is in your area. If you're not happy with that selection you can call HEAT toll-free and request an alternative supplier.

Who will perform my deliveries and service?×

Your oil deliveries and service will be performed by your HEAT supplier. You will receive your oil bills from them and you will pay them directly. If you have a problem with your heating system you will also contact them directly.

Is there any impact on the quality of oil or service?×

No. In fact most members report that their quality of service is higher as a member of HEAT than it was with their previous supplier.

How does HEAT save me money?×

HEAT negotiates your discount directly with your local HEAT affiliated heating oil supplier. In exchange for a large volume of business, these dealers significantly reduce their normal profit margins. You can expect to save between 15 and 25 cents per gallon on your heating oil.

In addition to your oil savings, you will also receive a free comprehensive service contract that includes extensive parts and labor coverage for your heating system, 24-hour emergency service, and a free annual cleaning and tune-up of your heating system.

Leadership

Andrew Heaney, President

Andrew is the third generation of his family to work in the heating oil business. His grandfather Fred Heaney and his father Peter Heaney owned and managed Skaggs-Walsh, Inc. one of the largest heating oil suppliers in New York City. As a boy Andrew worked for his father in every department: service, installations, administration, and sales. It was enough experience for him to know he didn't want any part of the business.

In 1994, Andrew's father became ill and appointed him to become President of a company he had recently purchased from its founder- HEAT. Only 22 at the time, Andrew found his training in the industry to be invaluable. With a deep and personal understanding of the dynamics of the business Andrew has managed to demonstrate that group buying works extremely well for both the consumer and their heating oil companies. Since he became President, HEAT has grown more than seven-fold in size.

In addition to growing HEAT and its buying power, Andrew also works to represent the roughly 80,000 heating oil consumers who participate in the HEAT program. Mr. Heaney is an outspoken advocate on their behalf in the media and in Washington. He has appeared on national television and in print including CNN and the New York Times.

Mr. Heaney holds a BA in History from Yale College and graduated with Distinction from the Harvard Business School. He is a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has run nine marathons to benefit pediatric cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Mark D. Kohan, Membership Services Director

Mark Kohan began his service at HEAT USA in 1989. He came to HEAT as the former director of customer service for the flagship store of a major international retail company. Mark's experience in retail combined with his professionalism and infectious energy, has raised the customer service bar for HEAT and many of its dealers. Mark has been instrumental in developing the many systems and programs that allow HEAT to deliver personalized help and advice to our members. He is also a strict enforcer of HEAT member benefits and rights, and directs his staff each day in monitoring dealer performance and member satisfaction.

Mark is a rabid and long-suffering (until recently) fan of the New York Mets. He graduated with a BA in Business from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
